An Aged Convict.
A vriend privileged to visit one of Her Majo3ty'e convict prisons came the other day upon an old woman, apparently seventy years of 'ige, engaged upon some light labour. He asked who it wae, and hoard a name thai has not passed the public lips for renrly a generation. It was Charlotte vVinsor, the child murderess, whom everybody, it they thought of her at all, doubtless believed was dead. More than tweuty years she has dwelt in this living tomb, and seems iikely to live for years to come. She wns forty-six, in the prime of life, when sentenced to penal servitude for life, and is now in her sixty-seventh year, having in last July attained what may be called her majority as a convict. She ia the doyen of nomea in penal eervitude. She has had a long interval of monotony after a very bad quarter of a year. It was in March, ISGS, that she was arraigned at the Exeter Assizes on a charge of murder The jury not being able to agreb, they wero discharged. It? the following July she was tried aeain, when the mother of tho murdered child confessed all. Charlotte YVinsor was iound guilry and pontenct?d to death. Lord WensleydMo took up her ca^e, protesting against anyono being tried twice for a capital offouco.
