Dr. Bird's Coat.
A good story i8 in circulation, which I have every reason to believe is true. You will remember that in the course of the trial the fur coat of Dr. Bird became prominent. A person of intelligence had been noting the fact, and a few days ago a messenger went to the house of Dr. Bird to say that Mr Lewie, the solicitor for Lady Colin, wanted Dr. Bird's fur coat. The coat was delivered by the porter, and you will know the sequel, Dr. Bird sent word to politely ask whether Mrs Lewis had yet done with the coat. It is worth upwards of £100, and a certain anxiety was intelligible. The reply, of course, wbb that Mr Lewis had not got the coat, and had never sent for it. The disgust of Mr Lewis was great when he saw that there were people still innooent enough to be taken in by a trick co stale. Scotland-yard was communicated with, and in the course of twenty-four hours it was found in a pawn-office, pledged for £15
