On January 25th the Abyssinians made a vigorous attack upon the Italians stationed at Saati. The Abyaeinians were repulsed with considerable loss. On the following day a column of the Italians were making their way to the relief and reinforcement of the troopa in Saati. The relief party
were surprised by the Abyflsinians and com* pletely routed, Is umbers of them were killed, and 90 wounded were left on the field. Some of the survivors reached Masaowah, from where was forwarded the news of the disaster to Rome There the news stagnated tb« public and created a panic in all pubiic places, and a frantic scene took place in the Chamber.
