TE AROH A PUBLIC LIBRARY. Annual Meeting.
Tiiid, above meeting 1 was held oh Tuesday evening last ill the Library Koorn. There were about half a dozen membesr present Mr J. Farrell presided. The Secretary, Mr Menzies, read the miriutea of the last annual meeting, which were confirmed j after which the following report and balance sheet foy the year ending December, 31st, 188fy was read and adopted :—
Annual RteoftT, The Committee of management of the Te Ar&ha District Library have much pleasure in laying before tye subscribers the fourth annual report and balance sheet for the yeai ended 31st December, 1886. Although the past twelve months hag been a period of dullness in the district, it is satisfactory to be enabled to state that the institution has continued to prosper, and the number of annual subscribers about the same, viz, 42. The income for the year was £78 123 Bd, in which is included the Government subsidy of £18 4s, the reading rooni is fairly visited by the residents and visitors. During the year about 55 voliimes were added to the Library, and the reading room was well supplied with periodicals and the leading Homo and Colodiul newspapers . The thanks of the subscribers are due to, Mr James Craig, jua., for donations of books, etc., to the Rev. J. B. Miinro, of Remuera, for a lecture given for the benefit of the institution, Mr Brnaes for repairing books, and also to concert committee for their efforts in adding such a handsome amount (£l2 10s) to the funds. The Committee endeavoured to obtain 1 from the Public Works Department a building to place in the Domain for the use of the Library, but were unsuccessful; we would recommend that the inconiirig committee make some effort to have the Library placed in the Domain, as there ,is reason to believe the change would bo advantageous to the institution. According to the bye-laws, the preserit office-bearers and committee retire, and i will be the duty of subscribers to eleej their successors.

A vote of thanks was accorded the Secretary for his services in the past. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
