IRISH LEADERS ARRESTED. Dillon, O'Brion and Others Charged With Conspiracy.
Dujilin, Dacetuber 16. — .lohn Dillon, Member of Parliament, for East Mayo, William 0 Brien.Gfiiiorof " United Ireland,' Matthew Harris, Member of Parliament for Ea.-t C! al way, and David Shoohy, Momber ot Parliament for South Ualway, wore arrestod to-day in tho town of Loughrea, County (Jalway, charged with conspiracy io defraud. The prisoners havo been acting as trusteo^ in conducting a " plan of campaign," and havo been lecoiving trom dissatisfied tenants the reduced rents refused by the landlords or landlords' agents. At the time ot making the arrootn, the police took away trom Mr Dillon £60 which ho had just received in tiust fiooi tenants. Hundreds of vonants came forward and paid their rent:?. Suddenly the police raided the oHice&. Inspector Davis seized the monoy, documeuc?, and books, and arrested Dillon. It is alleged that Dillon was roughly treated by the Inspector. The police pioceeded upstairs und touk possession of more monoy and documents. They then anested 0 Briun and afterward Harris and Sheehy. The spyeiu'c charge against them is that they were conspiring to induce tenants not to pay their lawful rents. The "Nation" learns in connection with the proposal to send a Biitish envoy to the Vatican that Lord Iddeeloitjh asked the right to object to undesirable appointments to Catholic vacancies in Great Britain, and that the Pope answered that persona who in any way violated the law would not be encouraged anywhere, as tho spreading of the gofcpel of peace was the object of the church.
