The "Daily Naws" of yesterday publishes an article denying the statement made by the "Standard" that Mr Gladstone was inclined to modify hia Home Rule for Ireland scheme, with a view to conciliate the Unionist Liberals. It is announced that Sir Henry Holland has been appointed Secretary of State for the Colonies. Tho Hon. Henry S f aflbrd Northcote, son of the Earl of Iddesleigh, has resigned the appointment as Financial Secretary to the Surveyer-Generai of Ordnance.
