A TERRIBLE FATE. Death of a Chicago Girl from Hydrophobia.
Cmo\oo, November 14.- Daisy Ttich died , this morning in horrible agony from hydroi phobia, the case being; the mo^t severe known in this city for a long time Twentyseven days ago she was attacked and bitten in eighteen different pl<ic>n by a I huge New found lar<d dag. The physicians who -vvero called pniii the dng was not mad and no danger was apprehended. The wounde ue>e dressed t and the patient pronounced completely well in a few daye. Two days ago, howevez\ startling- c ymptoms bee an to be manifested, and yesteiday morning she was attacked by hydrophobia in all i'£ horrors. She went into one gpapin afrer another, which continued all day and ail night. While suffering intense thirst and pleading - piteously for a drink, ehe had an indescribable aversion to water, and screamed in the utmost terror when ifc was brought near her, going into Fpasma if ehe ?a\v it. During the day ehe became more and more uncontrollable. Her sufferings seemed beyond human endurance, yet she retained consciousness. She was possessed by a strong desire to bite eomebody, and when anyone wont near her ehe would scream for them to go away. The attending physicians endo»voured to afford her relief by opiates and chloroform, but without success The amount of chloroform given her would have killed ten ordinary poisons, but it had do effect whatever on her, and she remained conscious, suffering horribly, until death camo.
