London, December 13 (via Teheran). Lord Tennyson has published a now poem. It is entitled, "A Sequol to Lockaley Hall." The theme of the poem ia a pessimist's survey of modern progress, or, as it might more properly be described, a survey of tho decline of civilisation. In very trenchant terms the poem mourns the glaring immoral tendenoies of the present day and slashes at the impurity and baneful effects of present day literature. The following quotation will give a fair idea of the tone ot the laureate's latest production: — " Fceo" the budding rose of bsyliood "' With the drainage of your sewer, "Send the drain into tho fountain " Lest the utream should issue pure, " 11 Settbe maiden fancies wallowing "In Checrousrh of Zolaiem. " Forward I Forward asre, and backward. "Downward too, into tho abysm !"
