Tim world still moves and has a being, though Miller prophesied its end in '43, Mother Shipton in S SI, and Wiggins in 'S6. >i athan Daboll, an almanac-maker in Eastern Connecticut, used to predict Uio state or the weather upon each page of his almanac after this fashion :—: — Ex pect rain hail or snow a bout this time ; And thus spreading ifc over was sure to hit some day right. Being particularly down upon Miller and his predictions, JDaboll thought to put a quietus upon the prophet by heading each month with a few lines in verse expressing his contempt "for the Millerite theory. One stanza ran something after this sort : The Millei'lte With keen foresight, The Millennium eees a raw nif?h, But not this year Will Christ appoar • In glory from on high. Whereupon an old rhymester in a neighbouring town printed the following rejoinder :— I don't suppose When Jesua will appear, That Miller knows Nor yet at all That Squire Daboll Knowa't will hoc be this year.
