Ko further developments have taken place in connection with tho demand of Turkey for an immediate evacuation of Egypt by the English, bat it haa transpired that tho Porte is disposed to modify its demands, and accept a reasonable compromise, rather than become a cats-paw of France. Wnddington, French Ambassador, London, has informed tho Marquia of Salisbury that it \vould be advisable for England to take the initiative in tixiDg the date for the evacuation of Egypt by British troop 3 if ehe desires to retain the friendship of France. Is i 3 believed that Turkey and Russia have intimated their intention to support Fiench demand?. Germany and Austria arc e aid to maintain an attitude of neutrality in the matter. Italy alone of all the European Powers, it is believed, will lend England its sympathy and support.
