Proposed Tunnel Between Ireland and Scotland.
Additional details aro being made public* in corrobora'ion of the statements regarding the proposed tunnel between Great? Britain and Ireland, from Donaghadee to Portpatrick. It appears that a 8ton& weighing between s ! x and seven cwt. has been forwarded to London as a sample of the rock strata which the tunnel would re--quire to penetrate. The piece of rock was taken from a spot between Donaghadee anct Milhale, cloea to the water'a edge. Tho place ot excavatiou is a point which ia generally believed to be the most likely outlet ror the tuuml on the Irish side. This pondoious sample was enclosed in & box, and, though its exact destination ia the Englih m-trop IK* is unknown about; Donaghadee, the crier to forward ib carno from a number of Lnn ion capitalists. It is staled that those be&C acquainted with the manner in which the project is progressing 1 seem to attribute the revival of the coneidera'ion of this old-mooted tunnel scheme to the recent alteration in the conditions under which the Portpatrick Railway is. being -worked. Certainly, viewed from the ordinary speculator's standpoint, the pro-* ject, if taken up by the half dozen Scottish: and English railways interested in furthering traffic with Ireland, and, above all, by the Government, should be eminently successful.
