RACES AT TE AROHA.

In accordance with an advertisement which appeared in our 1 ist issue, on Tuesday evening a meeting of local residents was held at the Club Hotel for the purpose of discussing the sulvisrbilifcy of getting up a race meeting at To Aroha at an caily date ; Mr Pavitt in the chair. The meeting was largely attended, and those present were unanimous in expressing appioval of the movement. After consi lerable discussion, it wns resolved that a lace meeting bj held on Friday, November 2Gth. It was resolved to ask Mr J. B. Why to, M H.Il , to be President ; the ejection of officers resulting as following : Secretary, Mr Pavitt; Treasurer, Mr Gi. Lipsey ; Stewards, Messrs Downes, Ebert, Menzies, Bradley, A. A. {Smith, Hetlnington, P. Quinlan, Randolph, Wiseman, and Quinn ; llandicappers, Messrs Cleavy, Hothrington, and Quinn; Committee, Messrs Leigh ton, E. A. Pavitt, FiMzor, Aitkon, Brennan, and Don ; Judge, Mr Downes ; Starter, Mr J. McNichol ; Cleik of Course, Mr R. Parr ; Clerk of Scales, Mr Frazcr. The first mooting of the newly-formed Club was held on Wednesday evening, when the programme was decided on, and other routine business transacted. Very liberal support has been accorded the movement, ani tbero is every reason to anticipate the forthcoming race meeting will be one of the most important ever held at Te Aroha. We may add, that the meeting is fixed for an earlier dato than would probably otherwise bo the case, on account of the new rules of the Auckland Jockey C!ub, which come into force on Dec. ls f . whereby in order to permit of the totalisalor £30 of added money must be given tor each race. The usual application has been made to the Colonial Secretary to have the totalisator on the giound. Already about .£50 has been guaranteed.
