"STRAINED RELATIONS." International Disputes and Threatened Ruptures.
London, October 18. Eenewei> uneadneaa is felt with regavd to the relations between Germany and Franoe. \ A strong anti-German feeling exisfcrf in France, v/hich is emphasised by the hostile comments made by several leading Paria newspapers. The Russian presa continues to diacuia the Egyptian question, and in a number of articles which have "recently appeared iTrance i3 strongly advised to re o^en the question with a view to compel England to terminate her occupation of that country. It is rumoured that ihe French and Ku.?sian Governments have persuaded the Sal- [ tan to pend an ultimatum to the Govern- ! ment of Great Britain demanding its evacuation of Egypt. , It is reported that the English are dofcirous of establishing a cavalry station at Qotthland, an island in the Baltic Sea, and occupying a commanding position to the approach to St. Petersburg. Earl Duuraven, in the course of an address delivered at a meeting of the Primrose League, held on Saturday, made reference to the question of the military occupation by France of the JNew Hebrides. He considered it impossible under the circumstances to distrust the reported assurances given by JTrance that she did not contemplate the annexation or permanent occupa4£on of the New Hebrides. He admitted, >at the same time, that it would be infinitely more satisfactory if the French Government ■would name a date on which they would evacuate the island?. "
