Mr J. M. McLaren, Mmmg 1 Inspector, is now here on a visit to the different mining centres, and he will doubtless make things lively for some of the mining company's who are holding largo areas of ground upon which little or no work whatever, has been done. With regard to the approaching aljustmentof accounts between tho Thames and Ohinemuri Counties, it was resolve 1 at last Saturday's meeting that a committee consisting of the Chairman, Cis Nichols Covbett, and* Humphreys, be appointed to meet the Auditor-General on his arrival at Thames, from Wellington, and that the Chainnim ascertain the date when he may be expected to arrive at tha* place. A great " tangi" is now being held at %< Moananui Settlement," on the body of a young- woman named Ahanrata Paaka. who died from consumption, ami who was one of the miueipul owners of the land upon which the Paoro i township is built. Great preparations are being mule for a ball which is to take place in Karangahake Hall to-night, and the gathering is expected to be the largest ever seen in the district.
