COROMANDEL-THAMES DISTRICT CHARITABLE AID BOARD. A LAST KICK;

An Endeavour to Make a Haul at the Expense of the Piako County Council.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Monday evening at Thames. Present : Messrs Ifcensbaw (Chairman), Greenville and Walsh. Amongst the business transacted (as reported in the Thames Star, of October 12), the following will be of special interest to our readers. Piako Snbsidy — A telegram was received from the Premier's office stating that after consideration the Government were of opinion that the Piako County is not liable to contribute to the Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards after its separation, but they would at once deduct and pay the Boards the County's proportion of contribution due to date of the new Act coming: into force, viz : about £247 and £295. The Chairman said that their conculations had been made for a year, and it was stated in the newspapers that the financial year expired on the 31st day of March, so that the Board should be treated as though they had applied for the whole of the money at once. He moved : <! That the Secretary write to Government asking for an advance equal to one-half of oar expected revenue, us per resolution of last meeting, ami that proceedings be taken after the 18th inst., against the Piako County Council for the amount demanded by the Secretary, unless it be paid before that date." Mr Greenville seconded the resolution, and in doing so said the Board had endeavoured to carry out (he Acb to the very letter. Government were a short time ago of opinion that Piako was liable for the whole amount, and he still believed this to be the case. In fact, he considered tha Board should test the matter with Piako, who were simply foisting their sick upon tho Boaid, and endeavouring to free themselves from liability. The amount now due to both Boards was nearly £SOO. The motion was carried. [The great injustice Piako County suffered prior to separation being obtained, is so well known, and has bjen so frequently referred to in our columns, that it needs no further comment. Our friends at the Thames have lost a "good thing," through Piako obtaining separation, and they know it. — Ed. A.O.N.]
