Wellington; Oct. 5. vsTo information has been received by the Government as yet with regard to the examination of the late Captain Cain's rom ains The matter is entirely in the hands of the Southern police authorities, and it is not at all certain that there will be any reference to headquarters before any prosecution has been cwnmenced, ehould that prove to be Warranted by the chemical testa applied. The local Crown Prosecutor and police authorities in that case have ample power to do all that ehould be necessary.

It is announce (says the " Times ") sxwi apparently on good authority, that the medical examination of the late Captain Cairn'a remains, has demonstrated conclusively that the deceased perished from the effects of antimonial poisoning —exteneive traces of antimony having been found. TXo official information to this effect, has, however, reached the Justice Department.

Tue Prisoner Hall. Chkistchukch, Oct. 3, Thos. flail left Lyttleton for Timaru this morning. One report states that the removal ia in connection with the exhumation of Captain Cain's body.another that he has gone at his own request to dispose of certain property before his trial.
