MERSEY TUNNEL TRAFFIC.
The number of persona who pasßed through the Mersey Tunnel last week was upwards of 160,000, making a daily average of between 22,000 and 23,000. "Whit Monday returns were naturally the largest, there being on that day upwards of 55,000 tickets isfiued. Saturday came next with a total of 30,000. The other days of the week were characterised by a considerable increase on the daily average traffic.
Customer (to storekeeper)—" I see you've got a sign up, * French and German spoken here,' You do not speak them youraelf, and you haven't any clerk. Who speaks 'em ?" Storekeeper— " Why, the people who come in, that want 'em spoken."
