NOTABLE ARTICLES IN ENGLISH MAGAZINES.

The New York " Tribune's " cable special from London says: "The 'Nineteenth Century ' has two articles of much interest. One is an elaborate study of Pasteur and hydrophobia by Prof.Ray Lanke&ter,a competent judge, who sums up decisively in favour of Pasteur. Professor Lankester believes that Pasteur's treatment is likely to prove an extraordinary success, and to place the author in the first rank of men of genius of all ages. An eminent New Zealander, Mr Wakefield, follows this with an animated attack on Mr Froude's New Zealand chapters on 'Oceana.' He impugns Mr Froude's accuracy and judgment, but an Australian (Mr Wise) appears at the came time in ' McMillan's' with a cordial endorsement of Mr Froude's account of Australia."
