SOIREE AT MORRINSVILLE

On Tuesday evening a soirco and concert in aid of the funds of the Upper Thames Wesleyan Circuit was held in the School-house, Morrinsvilie. The day was very unfavourable for the gathering 1 , and those who attended from To A roh a and other places at a distance had a very wet ride both going and re turning, which must necessarily have, marroil to a certain extent, what would under more favourable circumstances have been a very enjoyable trip. Notwithstanding the nnpropitious weather, however, the gathering- was a large, representative, and thoroughly successful one. Those ladies and gentlemen who undertook tlio preparations for the tea, etc., arc deserving of great credit, for the " spread" was excellent in every way. By half- past six, the hour fixed for opening the proceedings, the schoolroom was comfortably filled, anJ very speedily the wants of all comers weie provided for by many willing hands. The following p»esided at the tables :—: — Mesdames Buttle, Rowe, and. Green, Misses Horrell (2), and Gillies. PuitUc occupied the chair, and opened Ih^pki't of tho proceedings in a very appropriate speech, in which ho congratulated those present upon the largo attendance and thorough success of tho tea meeting. After the usual preliminaries the following programme, was gone through, several of the pieces being encored. The singers from Morrinsville and To Arolm were under the leadership of Messrs Green and Whitehonse respectively : " Sound tho Alarm," Choir ; hymn " I will sing of my Redeemer," choir ; Address, Clurrman ; solo, " When thou passcst through tho waters," Rev. J. Dellow ; hymn, " Peace be still," Choir; Address, Rev. J. Dellow ; quartette, "Theieisa calm"; solo, " Whe.'O is my wandering boy to-night," Mr Snell ; hymn, " Gospel Bells,"" Choir ; recitation, " Absolom," Miss Rf we; quartette, " God speed the right," Mr and Mrs Green and others; song, "That's not the way at sea," Rev. J. Dellow ; quartette, " Home." The piocecdings concluded with votes of thanks to all who had assisted, and the meeting broke up about ten o'clock.
