Barbarous Murders in Ireland.
A horrible agrarian murder took place in 'Headford, county Kerry, Ireland, recently. The murdered man, Patrick Tangney, had % foeen bogranger. He bad been threatened by Moonlighters. Tangney and hia wife lived with his daughter and hid lon-in-law. 'Thdse were the inmates when a knock was heard at the door. Doherty at once opened 'the door. Two men, armed with guns, walked intothekitcheo. Theyaeked Donerty his name, and he gave it at once. They 'then asked tor the old man, who, like the other inmates, with the exception of his wife, had all gone to bed before the Moonlighters arrived. Tangney at once got up, and, hurriedly dre3fcing himself, ■came into the kitchen. One of the Moonlighters asked him to go outside, with the object, as is supposed, of murdering him out of the presence of his wife and daughter. 'The daughter said she would not let her father out, and the old man asked what he had done that be should be molested. One of the strangers— the man who, afterward ■shot him— eaid : "I thought you would Tiot bring us this way any more." Tangnty replied: "Did I not keep my promise?" And the stranger eaid; "Did 3E not tell you to sell 1 bog la6t week ? The ' old man denied this, and the ■second visitor said : "We will pardon you this time. " The portion of the gang who were still outside demurred to this, and urged those inside to shoot Tangney. The "first-mentioned of the visitors then ordered Doherty and his wife and the old woman Tangney to go to an adjoining room, or they would shoot them. The old woman alone appears to have resisted' this order, and -«veD she at last, on a gun being pointed to her breast, withdrew, observing that "she was satisfied to leave it all to the Blessed Virgin." One of the men then said, " One, two, three," and discharged his weapon at Tangney. The Moonlighters left, and Mra Doherty came out of the room, and went to assist her father. Tangaey died about five -minutes afterwards.
