Scene i n a German Church in Melbourne. Melbourne, September 7.
At the Collingwood Police to-day, two men named G. C. Utty and C. Preues, were charged with insulting behaviour in a place of public worship on Sunday last. It appeared that thoy had interrupted service in the German Evangelistic Church, to which they belonged, by going farward and demanding liberty to speak. A scene cf great confusion followed, and the men were eventually removed by the police. Their defence was that the pastor l«d an immorul life, and was unworthy to remain in charge of tho church. Two of the trustee*, Preuea being one, had notified to the pastor, who wan the third trmtee, tbeir wi«h to hold a meeting prior to service to submit charges against the pastor, and all that the defendant* did was to insist on this being first held, which the pastor disregarded. The interruption was not denied. The defendants were each fined in a nominal penalty of 20<j, with costs.
