Frame for Carting Green Forage
For carting bulky but comparatively liglr materials the vehicle ' used should havi large carrying' capacity combined will, lightness of construction compatible witl requisite strength. Also any arrangemen> which allowed the work 1 of Joadirtg to bi readily done by one person would be mani festly a great advantage. It vrould seen that the frame represented in tlie accom panying cut, reengraved from the jffym/,
New Yorker, supplies in a great me»«uve these useful features. A correspondent who has seen this frame in use is much impressed with ite convenience and praptical utiMty. He writes :—lt at once struck me an being the best thing for the purpose that I had ever seen. He loaded a large quantity of green maize upon if with the greatest eaie imaginable, and could have 'carried a good dea.l more, if necessary. The bed-pieces should be kauri two by six inches and fouiteen feet long connected by six cross-pieces made from some tough timber, each one and-a-half by two inches, upon which rests a bottom of loose boards. The upright pieces are two by three inches, bolted to the bed pieces, and held firmly by short stay-rods connecting them with the cross-pieces. The slats should be made of light tough wood two inches wide by one inch thick. •
A novel and useful feature was the stepladder, shown in the sketch, which could be hung upon staples fastened on either side of the frame by means of the iron hooks attached to its sides. A man rXan take a large armful of fodder, walk up these steps and place it where he wishes, thus dispensing with a loader. In loading, the fodder was set upon end until the frame was filled to the open apace in the middle, then it was laid cross-wise. , m-^.
