The Royal Palace Scandal.

" Truth " says :—I animadverfed a fortnight ago on the scandalous fact that the taxpayers are yearly asked to vote sums for the Stud House at Hampton Court, whioh is occupied by Colonel Maude, a well-paid functionary of the Queen 'a household. It is quite astonishing that we should pay a handsome sum every session to maintain Buabey Park, which is " lent " by the Queen to the Due de Nemoura. One would think that as this, wealthy Orleans Prince gets the place rent-free he could very well afford .to keep it in adequate repair. After the death of George IV., Bueshey was given to the Duke of Sussex for life ; but no sooner was he settled there than it was taken from him, as it was found that no other place , was available as a dower-houee for Queen Adelaide, who had it from 1837 till her death, when it reverted to the Queen, ,being a Royal residence ; apd her Majesty subsequently thought fit to "lend," it to the Duc'de Nem'ours/who was married jto the Princess Victoriapf Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, a cousin of , Prince Albert's ; and items for ( Buehey have always figured as a sort of running accompaniment to the estimates. It certainly seems to me that only palaces really' in the occupation of the Queen should be maintained by the country, and .that ali others.should.be kept up by- those who have the us-e pf them. This will be one of the firWriiinbr que^tions'that a truly Radical Parliament mußti take in hand.
