WAR IN SAMOA. AN AMERICAN SEAMAN MURDERED.

A F/fi paper of the 18th August says: — "By the schooner John Hunt, later news has been received from Samoa. No sooner had the various men-of-war 'withdrawn from Apia than the rival parties of King Malietoa and Tamaseso immediately resumed belligerent operations. It is also reported that during the stay of the U.S. man-of-war Mohican one of her crew lost his life, having been clubbed by a native in revenge for an insult offered to his wife. Although Samean warfare is of a very desultory nature, and tb.3 rival parties would, under any circumstances, be long in exterminating each other, yet there appears only one mode of putting an enl to the con tin uI ou<3 internecine strife existing in the Navigators Group, and that is by their speedy annexation by a stronger Power and the establishment of a firm government over' them to protect those interesting semi-savages against theoaeelves.
