WHY ARE WE HERE?
As*r of the mighty Past, whoso heroes lie Ifciveloped tofir e's hidden mystery ; Adc ye the spirits of those men of worth Whose lives of beauty left their trace on earth. Men of all ages, grert. and wise, and taw, TOO Uwdtho trains they eoughtin love to show: •' Why were y © here r Were those grand boulb, whose light is not yet Free from the sorrows of thislife of sin 1 Had they no bitter pangs of giiet or loss? Did they reoeive the crown before the cross? Or did they live that inner lifejrablime, That gave them viotory o'er things Of time? Why were'they here ? like footprints on the great highway of life, liike victors in the Held o£ human strife ; Behold them orotrned with influence sublime, Teaching our sonls to seek that life divine ; While throngh the ages swell the troths they Which Nearer to theic aod mankind hare brought. Why are we here? To live our lives of progress in the light, To help redeem the ivorld from error's night, To strive and wrestle daily with the '"rong, To use our powers in making others strong, To teach our brethren higher truths sublime, To win rich harvests from the field of time. Our Father placed ub here.
