The residents and settlers in this district will be pleased to notice that the popular firm of auctioneers, Alfred Buckland and Co., have started building extensive sale yards in the paddock opposite to the Phoenix Hotel. . The s.te is well chosen, being centrally situated, -and convenient to to the railway station. It is to be hoped tint (he (inn will push *on with the erection of the yards, so they may be in readiness for commencement of spring sales. Extensive ploughing contracts have let by Messrs Morriu and Stu.iholnie in and around the township, -about two thousand acres in aIL A •good portion is to be laid down in turnips. This will be a stop in the right direction, as the fact is already known *that turnip is the most reliable crop for •early feed^ and will carry cattle through in readiness for spring grass. The lalnbing season on ihi? estate has ; the young ones are wo.th looking at, and speaks well for the care- I v ful management they receive. The}' are 'choice sheep, and the sort that pay for | careful attention. Now that we have got new blood i^fnsed into the Highway Board, it is to be hoped that some of the long-headed ones will urge the necessity of gravelling some of the wor?t parts of the streets in the township ; in wet weather they are in a regular quagmire, especially the road near the railway bridge leading to the station. — (Own Correspondent.)
