The Prisoner Holt.
The prisoner Holt, ex-manager of the Bank of New Zealand, has since his conviction been detained in Parramatta Gaol, where he has been subjected to solitary confinement similar to that imposed upon prisoners sent to Berrima and Goulburn gaols. The medical officer at Parramatta has reported to the Government that in his opioion Holt is on the verge of acute mania, that he is in the hospital, and that no one, not except the solfcitor who has been endeavouring to arrange his private affaire, is permitted to ccc him. In consequence of this, the Government have requested Dr. MacLaurin, the health officer, to critically examine the prisoner, and to forward a re* port to them at the earliest possible date with regard to his mental condition.
