Silverton. — In the low level going southwards the reof has widened out, being now fully Sit in thickness, and strong colours of gold are frequently visible in the stone. This week a start was made to drive northwards upon the footwall portion ot the lode, from which the manager expects to get some good stone when the level reaches the point of contact with the winze. Union. — Stoping out above the low level where the reef is fully 3ft in thickness is still in progress, and the whele of the stone is being saved for treatment. The 20-ton parcel, which will be sent to England, is now in course of transit to Bowentown, East Coast, from whence it will be shipped to Auckland. About 100 tons of quartz from this mine is now under treatment at the Martha battery, where it is showing up for a return of over one ounce per ton. Winner. — In the early part of this week a start was made to drive a low level, with a view to testing a large reef at a considerable depth beneath the surface. This lode outcrops on the top of the spur, and in order to accomplish the work in hand, it will be necessary to drive a distance of 250 ft. . Martha Extended. — From the stopes north and south of the winze beneath the low level, some very good stone ia coming to hand ; and this is shaping well at the battery where 20 head of stampers are running upon ifc continuously. OWHAROA. Prospecting Level.-— Within the la:t few days a decided change for the better has taken place in the character of the country through whioh this level is passing 1 , and consequently better headway will. now be made. Mr E. W. Jones, who is now at Karangahake, informs me that the company could not mako arrangements, for getting a supply ot galena ore from the Tui Creek mines

in time to meet present requirements, and consequently ho has advised the directors to cable to Australia for a i parcel of 20 tons*. Diamond.— Sinking operations in the winze going down beneath the intermediate level were suspended on Saturday last, in consequence of the inflow. of water which' was too great for the men to contend with. Leamington. — Lockwood and party, proprietors of this mine, have advanced their prospecting level close up to the line where the underlie of the reef should be met with, and they expect to have it in hand any day. Adeline. — Cleaning up and retorting for this mine will eventuate at the Ivanhoe battery to-morrow morning. The quantity of quartz put through was about 50 tons, and judging from the way in which the crushing 1 shaped on the plates the all-round return should not be less than 200ozs retorted gold, but it would be no surprise to me to hear that the return figures up to a far larger amount. New Quartz Reduction Works. — During the past week good headway has been made with the construction of the different works in connection with this plant. Inside the building the bed logs have been laid down for the stamper boxes, and the whole of the framework for the pans and amalgamators has been finished.
