LATEST FROM AUCKLAND Auckland, Last Night. • About a thousand men, mostly artisans, and labourers attended a meeting of unemployed today, and a resolution was carried urging Government to open Te Kuiti section of the main trunk railway to the unemployed by day labour. A deputation was also appointed to wait on the Mayor. In the bankruptcy estate of Fenton, hatter, the liabilities are set down at £5,333 ; assets £783 above that sum. MARKETS. Some days ago information was conveyed to the police that Caffrey had been seen by settlers at Waitakerei Ranges. Detective Twohy was sent to make enquiries , and the settlers identified the man they had seen with tho murderers photograph. Three constables were sent to assvst Twohey in the search yesterday, and three more will be despatched to-night, it being the intention to thoroughly scour the country between Henderson and Kaipara heads. Opunake, last night. Te Whiti has been committed for trial at the Supreme Court, Wellington. It wns explained to him that although he was not actually present at the forcible entry at Manaia he was equally guilty in the eye of the law because he bad incited the rest to commit tho crime. All the native prisoners are committed to take their trial at Wellington. Te Whiti left orders at Parihaka for operations to cease at present. LATEST FROM WELLINGTON. Wellington, Last Night. Tho Mining Bill has finally passed the Lower House. Tho Public Works debate is still ceeding.Sir G. Grey moves a resolution giving the colony power to alter its own constitution. The session is still likely to lust another fortnight. Probably there will be a warm dobate on the Government Insurance report.
