"Struck He" at Gisborne. Gisbodrne, July 14.

Mr Wedder, manager of the South Pacific Petroleum,Works,reports that the third sanct was struck at a depth of 1,140 feet, the drill being 40 feet in advance. This drill bom was one foot into the sand when a gootl show of oil was found, and a plug was then inserted, according to instructions from Sydney. Upon opening the hole the plug was found to have been forced up 40 ieot to the bottom ef the pipe, and some 60 or 70 feet of oil and sand forced round the plug into the pipe. The rammer was placed on the plug which was driven. within ten feet of the bottom. Al the fluid was then bailed out but within an hour the pipe has fell to the same depth again. It was bailed out three times with the game result. He estimates that the, present indications are goods for a 29 to 30 barrel well.
