At the post and rail fence, which was next to the last fence from home, Victor, Orient, Secretary, and Denbigh were racing together, the Lad a length awuy. The pace was very fast, and the last hurdle being safely negotiated by all, the interest became intense. Up the straight a desperate raco ensued, and when 20 lengths from home it was difficult to tell which would prove the winner, as all were together. All the whips were out. Secretary had the inside running, and Denbigh the outside. As they neared the post, Denbigh forged slightly ahead, and stalling off the rush by Secretary, was declared the winner by a pbnrt neck, Victor an excellent third, and Orient a good fourth, The Lad pulling up last. The race, beyond doubt, was the best ever scon on a Wellington course, and visitors from distant parts declared they had never seen a better. Time, 7min. 4sec Dividend, £4 Alter Secretary's running in this, his running in the Trial Steeplechase was severely criticised. The Consolation was won by 11. Mason's Victor, who beat three other-'.
