CONCERT AT SHAFTESBURY.
On Thursday erening last a very enjoyable entertainment of a miscellaneous character came off at the School-house, Shaftesbury. The room was moat tastefully decorated for the occasion, awl i though the weather proved rather unpropitious, there was a-large and appreciative audience. The Rev. James .'Marshafl was ! called -to preside, ' and ' after a few preliminary remarks by the Chairman, the following programme was carefully .cone through : — Part. 1 : (Pianoforte duet, " La Perle dv Nord,"

Pud Jle Porter," Mr E Hayter Cox ; quartette, " Sir Knight •o ? Whither Away." Part' 2 ; Pianoforte duet, « Lastßose of Summer," Misses M and B. Cox ; violin solo, "Miss D Roche; Aileen Alana," Miss X Roche; recitation, " Execution of Montrose," Mr E Hayter Cox ; song, « Sailing," Mr Cockeri on m > * on S (violin accompaniment), " Ihe bong for me," Mr and Miss GageBrown ; pianoforte solo, " The Banio " Miss M. E. Cox; song, "The Twins'" Mr Gage-Brown j quaftet'te. Finale "God Save the Queen." The Concerted pieces were rendered with great precisidrt and evinced most careful preparation. It would be invidious to select any par^ ticular performer for special notice when all executed their parts so well. Both the chairman and several •of the audience appeared to be agreeably surprised to find so much musical talent in the Shaftesbury district. The proceeds of of the concert are to be given to the Td Aroha Church of England Building Fund. Several of those present expressed the hope that another opportunity would be given of a similar evening's enjoyment, especially as many who had arranged to be present were pre^ vented from attending by the inclemency of the weather.
