Batteries. — Filth and Clarke : — New Find : .Since hi^t monthly retort (about 10 il.u's' Clashing, one shi£t)to S.itimhiy l.i^t, 85 tincks oontjial dirt yielded fioui tut lory (J3oz, fiom tailings lOoz, from surface diit 22 tracks, Soz (from plates only). Total, Bioz retorted gold. New Era Quart/, Reduction Works. — Waioiongoimi (Provincial pojtion of the pioperty), G trucks roasted List week and since put through tlio pans, was finished treating on Tnesd.-iy last, the amount o£ lead bnil'on being 1490k containing- n trace of gold. This has since been .sent to the Thames for bank assay. A tiial lot from the New Era low level is now being treated ; some of it being roasted, some only dried prep'iiatory to be submitted to the pans. This battery is now ready to receive parcels of diit for treatment from any portion of the gold field. Nkw Find.— Since last report the new low level cross-cut has boon making satisfactory progress, and is now in a distance of 155 ft. The country still continues favourable for driving. Stoping on No. 1 reef north and south above low level is still being proceeded with, and the dirt now being broken out is shaping for a payable return. Qmutz is still being broken from the old Weiahiko run on surft.ee, and is also shaping for a payable return at the battery. A good deal of crushing diit has lately been obtained from the surface of No. 1 reef, and although of! a poorer class than the other dirt being- sent down for I) eutrnetit will probably prove a payable owing to the small cost at which it can be obtained. Stoping is in progress on No. 2 reef. No. 2 run above No. 1 level, fiom which some very good crushing dirt is coining to hand. Waiokonqomai. — Some 20 to 30 tons aio ready to be sent down for treatment, and the quantity is being daily added to ; but until the vesult of tho 5 ttucks sent to the New Era Reduction \vorks is made known, no steps will be taken with regard to where it will bo sent fortroatment. The clean up from tho 10 trucks sent to Firth and Clarkes battery took place on this clay week) the yield being 2oz 17dwt retorted gold". The gold in this reel: exists in. a very fine state. Six truck loads from tho Provincial section «of the property to the New Era Quartz Reduction Works yielded 1490z lead bullion, containing traces of gold. Its value at the time of writing this report was not known. Tji. — Champion Lodes. — Several hands are busily engaged in breaking out quartz from Nos, 2 and 3 claims, which is being carted down, and stacked on the i ail Way station grounds for transmission to Auckland. It is the intention of tho share- ] holders to ship home at least another 100 tons, in addition to tho quantity shipped this week from Auckland, viz : about 22 j tons fiom Aroha on Saturday last, and also some that was lying at Thames and Onehunga, in all about 30 tons. Mr Comes assures us there |is no truth whatever iv the statement which appears in the Thames Star this week, to the efCect that the shareholders were about to seek protection foy the grouud, and discontinue work for a time. A large quantity oti ore from No : 1 claim is ready for removal but owing to there being no proper road to the claim, it wonld cost too much at present to romo.ve. Tho results of the asaays of four Rumples of ore which were sent to San Francisco from these claims are as follows ; — No. 1 ,

oontnined about A±az gold cmd 1390-/s silver, valued at L 57 per ton. * No 2, loz lOrhvta gold, and 94ozs silver, being valued at at L 32 5f por ton. No 3 was scaice'y ymyable. Tlie fourth <wimr-Io w.is that oi gelcna. ore, and contained 15^ozs silver, and 50 per cont. o£ lead, beiug 1 worth L 9 per ton. The results are considered very satisfactory, and may be taken n«? i'siir tests, the samples beiny; each some 30 or 40 .pounds in weight. Trenton, (late Morninc; Star). — Messrs Ilornibroolc, Qninn, and (Jleary, arc busily en^a^ed in making 1 preparations for brint^inp; clown a quantity of ore from this claim to he forwarded to Firth and Clarkes battery for treatment.
