Cap tain nad Officer Charged with Manslaughter. THE INQUIRY. [From Sydney Papers ] Green Cape , June 4.
At tho inquost on iho bodice of tho victims by the Ly-ee-moon, tho evidence of Captain Webber and Mr Fotheringham, the fhird officer, was very contradic tory. In one part of his evidence Mr Fotheringhain called tho captain a liar.
Tho Boy Adams's Statement. The little boy Harry Adami gives tbo following narrative: — "My father is chief steward of the Mararoa, which runs up North. I was on board with my mother and my littlo baby sister. I was in a different cabin to my mother, and in my cabin when the vessel struck. 1 got out of bod. and saw a lot of gentlemen dressing. I asked some ono where my mother was. They eaid the was in tho ladies' cabin, I wont there. Mother and sister and I then tried to get on deck, i eaid, "Come on deck, mother, for tho boats.' The lower dock was bursting up. Then mother said, 'No, I forget.' Oh, there was such a lot of noise, and steam blowing off, and cracking. Then we wont further forward, and we hui.g on to the polo in the saloon, and the people were crying out, 'Oh, God, save us,' and praying. Thank God, I did get saved. Mother kissed me, and said, ' Poor boy ; oh, Harry, we pro going.' It was dark, and I did not bee mother after that. I clambered up to the porthole, and opened it, and tried to get out. I was helped by two gentlemen —Mr Poolo and Mr Lumsden, I think. We could hear the people on the alter part of tho ship calling out. It was a long rime. I was on the outside. I got between two or three gentlemen to keep mo warm I began to got sleepy. I remember saying, ' Can I go ashore, captain.' I remember going through the waves. Tho captain said, ' Here, put your lega through this?,' but I could not tell you what it was ; we seemed to go through tho wave 3 too quick. I soemed dreaming. Tho next thing I knew I was on a man's shoulders, being carried to tho lighthouse. I remember waking up in a voom and someone rubbing my logs and hands, I feel well now "
DESCRIPTION OF THE BODIES. The following is a description of tha bodies recovered :—: — 1. Antonio Pothymutos, chief cook. 2. Jacob Hudson, fireman. 3. JvTaude Campbell, saloon passenger. 4. Tattoo marked tsl bant" or "out;" tattoo also of rose on upper left arm, and a vase and flowor on the inside of the same arm ; ring with stone unengraved on the little finger of the right hand. o. Supposed to be a plasterer on his way to Sydney for a job. 6 Unrecognisable. 7. Male elderly man. long grey board,unrecognisable. 8. Female, w edding ring and keeper. 9. Stout man, tattoo mark on left upper arm, two V's connected with C in cencro. 10. Fomale, with rod petticoat and underclothing, Russian leather boots, black quilted skirt, wedding ring and keeper, supposed to be Mth Coglan. The leifc boot is patched at back and front, and theieare marks on the body by which it might be recognised. 11. Male, clean shaved, dark head, one arm and one leg only. 12. Male, littlo finger right hand gone; half circle of Indian ink on third ringer of left hand : a dot of Indian ink on left hand, between fore finger and thumb, and like an H on outside of the left arm, between elbow and wrist. The Government pilot steamer is cruising off the coast, and has succeeded in recovering several bodios, but cannot communicate with the shore otherwise than bv signal
