On Wednesday affcernooD, the captain, mate, and second mate having made brief statements denying the charge* made against them in the evidence read over, the Consular Agent, Mr Stephenson declared the inquiry closed. At dusk Mr Stephenson, in conße*quence of rumours which had reached him, placed Constables MeGilp and Donovan on board the Petrel, This step is understood to be taken in order to prevent the ship from leaving.
