ATMOSPHERIC PHENOMENA IN AUCKLAND. Auckland, June 12.
Mr Cheesoman, Government meteorological observer, informs us that from Wednesday night until yesterday morning at 4 a.m. there was a steady fali of the barometer here, indicating a decrease of atmospheiic pressure on the earth's surface, [f a similar fall took place at Rotorua at the time of the eruption, and we have no doubt that Dr. Ginders, the Government medical officer there will be able to supply the data, it will seem as though the leereased pressure of the atmosphere precipitated the eruption.
run glare visible in Auckland. About Wo o'clock this morning a strong jlare was observable in the Southern aeavcns, proceeding doubtless from the rolcano of Mount Tarawera.
A Word of Acknowledgment. In connection with the Kotorua disaster, we wish to return our sincere thanks to the officials of the Telegraph Department for the expedition and correctness with which, in spite of great difficulties! our messages have been forwarded. As showing how great has been the pressure of telegraphic work, consequent upon endeavours to supply the public with late and complete information of the disaster, we may mention that we yesterday received 11,147 words by telegraph for the Star.
