EXPEDITION STARTS FOR TAUPO. ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE SHOCK.
Heary Mndsllps Threatened Dr. Hector, Captain Mair and party left for Taupo thiß morning. They go to Wellington via Napier. Heavy rain is now falling, and the hills near Ohinemutu look white, apparently from a fall of snow. It ia intensely cold here. Another slight earthquake shock was felt at Ohinemutu at eleven o'clock to day. The rain ia expected to cause heavy mud slips on the road to Wairoa. Mrs Hazard left for Cambridge to-day in an open buggy, being anxious to ge.t away from the place.
INSPECTOR BOLD'S REPORT. Inspector Bold has come in from Taheke. We has had parties of men cleaning the telegraph wires, which are splashed .with mud as far as Maketu He reports that the road from Taheke is in fair condition, the only bad place being- at Te Ngaewhere. There ie not more than four inches of mud.
BAD REPORTS FROM THE EAST COAST* There are bad reports from all 'the EJasfc Coast settlements as far as Opotiki of destruction of feed for cattle. It is honed that the rain will partially cle^r it. Ths weather, however, is clearing.
THIS MORNING'S EARTHQUAKE NOT LOCAL. An earthquake was felt at Tahoko, and also at Wairoa, at midnight, showing that it waB not local to Rotorua, and probably came f**om the convulsions around Taiawera.
