GOLD FIND AT WAITAKEREI
Auckland, June 5 Some weeks ago Mr I). Henderson, of Pif-t-street, was out at Waitakerei Ranges inspecting some property belonging to him at Taupaki. Being of a geological turn ot mind, he makes a practice of collecting curious specimens from the mineral kingdom which he may come across in his travels. During the visit to which we allude, he found several pieces of quartz and lumps of cement, which it struck him might be auriferous. These specimens he brought to town with him, and had them tested by Mr Galbraith, analyst. This gentleman tested a piece of the quartz and a lump of cement, and yesterday he submitted to Mr Menderson the following report : — " I have assayed f or , gold and silver two varieties of stone left here by you lately, and find that they both contain gold and silver to the amount of 13d wts. 1. grain per ton." We may add that the cement resembles the Heliers Creek cement, but it is harder, and ap parently belongs to an older- geological era. Mr Henderson intends to thoroughly pros peot the ground, and he informs us that he will grant a permit to any practical man who cares to inspect the locality.—'* Star."
