The committee of Legislative Assembly has adopted a resolution affirming in principle the desirability of introducing a land tax. The San Francisco mail contract has also been adcpted. Sydney, June 2. — Holt was brought up for sentence to-day, and condemned to four years' hard labour in Dariinghurst Ganl. Brennan, the Australian engineer, has perfected his torpedo, and the final trials of the instrument are to be made in a fortnight's time. Sydney, June s.— Complaints have been made in the Legislative Assembly of the inadequacy of the sentence passed upon Holt, the iraudulent bank manager. Adelaide, June 4. — The discussion on the no-confidence motion concluded in the Assembly last night, when, a division be ing taken, ' the motion was rejected by a majority of 8. Adelaide, June 7.— The South Australian Ministry has been reconstructed. Mr Newland has resigned office, and the following appointments have been made : —Mr Spence, Chief Colonial Secretary ; Mr Bray, Coloaial Treasurer t Mr Turner, Commissioner of Public Works. Melbourne, June 5. — It is announced that there will be no amendment 'proposed to the Address-in-reJ)ly to the Governor's speech. At a meeting of Melbourne Presbytery, held in private this evening to consider the I£ev. J. Doda' refusal to deliver up his sermons for scrutiny in connection with Dr. Morrisons charge against him of unorthodox teaching, a resolution was eventually carried declaring Mr- Dods guilty of contumacy. The Revs; J'Hay and G. Eraser and 1 Mt. T. Baillie Have lodged an appeal to the General Assembly against .the resolution of the Presbytery.
