Land Associations Bill The Land Associations Bill (Mr Ivess) is a measure to facilitate the issue of mortgage debentures|and annuity bonds by land owners, and to enable societies and associations of persons engaged in agricultural pursuits, to buy, cell, or otherwise deal with mortgages, debentures, and securities affecting land, Ite operations aro limited to Industrial and Co-operative Associations, and provision is made whereby landowners and others can raise money with facility upon the securities of their landed property. The New Hebrides Question. From the speeches made in yesterday's debate, it was abundantly clear that a majority of the House were against the propriety of refusing to enter into any agreement as to the partition of the South Sea Islands. The reason for referring the matter to a Belect committee was to get the seoret and confidential telegrams which could not come before the House. Future Railway Expenditure. "A section of the Lower House," eaya the "Times," "seems inclined to oppose the commencement of new railways until those already begun shall have been completed to ,the paying, point. It is estimated that about two and a-half millions would bo required' to effect this, and five millions more to carry r out other lines, which are ( projeoted in various pai-ta of the colony. A suggestion was mootedthat an expenditure of two and^ a-half millions the works indicted should be spread over three years. I*.
