TE AROHA SOHOOL COMMITTEE.

The first, general meeting- of the above took place on Tuesday evening last. Present : Messrs Vauso ('chiiir-ivan), O. Wilson (-secretary), Ilott, Dobson, Chalmers, Lavery, ami Yhier. The question of strictly enforcing the compulsory clauses of tho Education Act, (which had been brought into force for the firsf time in this district by the late committee) was discussed, and on the motion of Mr Chalmers, it was resolved, " That in accordance with a recommendation from the householders, at the annual meeting for the election of a school committe." 1. That the school teacher bo requested to furnish the committee at each monthly meeting, with a li»t of all absentees, so that if necessary, steps may be taken to compel better attendance, according to law. 2. That the school teacher be further requested to furnish as far as possible tho names of any children of school age in the district, who may not bo on the schooll roll at all. Mr Chalmers referred to the advisability of appointing each mouth a visiting committee, and after considerable discussion it was resolved, " That a visiting committee of two members be appointed at each monthly meeting, for the purpose of reporting to tho committee on the efficiency of the management of the scnool, ami matters appertaining to its general welfare. Messrs Vause and Wilson were appointed a visiting committee for the enduing month. The Cuainnan and Treasurer "were authorise I to sign all cheques.
