Colonel Fraser and His Constituents.

Thames, April 16. Colonel Fraser, M.H.R., addressed his constituents in the Academy of Music tonight, there being a good attendance of electors, Mr James McGowan occupied the chair. He only spoke about half an-hour. In the course of his address he said he had no doubt that, no matter how the meeting of the shareholders of the Isew Zealand Smelting Company, re taking over the furnace, resulted on Monday, the furnace at Karangahake would be in full blast in ten days. He expressed himself favourable to the borrowing of one million and a-half annually for the completion of railways and other public works already commenced, but was opposed to the East and West Coast Railway at pi'esent. He was also inclined to favour a land and income tax, and thought Sir George Grey's land scheme should have a fair trial. At the conclusion of his address Mr William Rowe moved, and Mr Alexander Brodie seconded, a vote of thanks and confidence, which was carried.

The Colonial Secretary and Premier of Queensland have addressed a long memo, to the New Zealand Government relative to the question of occupying New Guinea, and the matter is now under the consideration of the Government.
