The Secretary of the Telegraph Department has received a telegram from Keke rangi that the Taiaroa went ashore at Trolcves or Gravelly Beach, free from rocks. One of Kekeranga hands returning from Ciarerce Kivar, reports that he met a man on the beach early this morning on the north bank of the Clarence, who said he was a passenger by the Taiaroa, which was ashore at a point about one mile north of the Clarence River. He went dov\n at cnce to the wreck, and on the way met the passenger. He could see no one on board, and the passenger saved knew of no others. The station hands have been sent to the north and south, to search for bodies. Do.cc.in, April 12. The s c. Penguin has been ordered to go from Wellington, and the Wanaka from Lyttelton to Blenheim. The agent goes overland. Wellington, April 12. The Penguin left at 11.30 for the scens of the wreck. Sergeant Grant is said to be the passenger saved. Telegram has just been received from Kekerangi as follows :—": — " One man just been found, alive but cramped. Sargeant Grant is one of the passengers saved. ' Another telegram states that the second passenger referred to in previous telegrams a» saved is Gilbert Hutton, a Civil Servant, of Wellington. If requiied, there are twenty men available in the vicinity of the wreck to assist. Captain Bendall, Secretary of the Underwriteis' Association, is a passenger. Mre Fitzgerald, ■who was on the ss Taiaroa, was the wife of the editor of the " Timaru Herald," and another passenger from Wellington i 3 Mr Hawkins, bootmaker.
