OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the a'»ove was held on Saturday last in thf Council Cuauuers, P.ieroa, eonitnenciui? at 8.30 p.m. Present—Crs Cock (chairman), Corbett, Nicholls, Strange, Moore, Walsh, Bntl-r, ana Humphreys. The minutes of the previous meeting; were first read and confirmed, after which tenders for various road works were opened, viz. :—: —

After the tenders bad been read the Conncil adjourned For about an hour to consider same ; and with respect to No. 1 section Thames-Tauranga Road, it was rather singular that only two parties tendered for the work, both being exactly alike. The Councillors suggesting to te tenderers to arrange between themselves as t«> which should take up the work, they agreed to " toss" for it, Mr Punch winning. Tiie Foreman of Works' estimate for the combined five sections, main road contract, was £485, whilst the tenders acceptel would amount to £435, and for Karangahake Hill Track, £110; accepted tender £72. For Waitekauri road and track, the County Engineer, Mr Pavitt's estimate was £235 ; the accepted tender £222. The total value of tender accepted being £7"29.

Co !iK ESMONDS NCE. Tui Creek T;-ack.— Mr J. A. Dobson, secretary to the Tui Tiack Committee, wrote as follows, under date M.iruii 11th, 18i"6,- -Since the last statement submitted to you of the works recommenced by this committee to bf can-ie.l out in the Tui district, and of which your approval was asked, it has been found a bisable, owing to fresh discoveries to make soma alterations in the tracks to be formed, and consequently in the expenditure of the money included for the works mentioned in that statement. The opening up of the lodes on which the Imperial and Cameron claims are situated, and the encouraging prospects ohtaine 1 from them necessitate the making of branch tracks to admit their being worked. The road to the Surprise has already been made by the owners of the Champion Lo le claims for a distance of 18 chains, an 1 it will require to be extended about 2b chains further, for which it is propose Ito invite tenders at once. Prom the main track to Cameror-'s ground the distance is about 20 clv.ins, and this lias already been let at 27s per chain. The eighteen chains made by the Champion Lo le people was necessary for the working of the lower part of the ground, and this committee deem it only fair that so. ne of the money expended by the shareholders on that ami other road work should be refunded. At a mcetof committee held on the 9th inst, t.ie following resolutions were passed :—(1): — (1) Tlitit tiM.de s ha called foi at ".nice for foiMiuu 20 cmiais of the ro.ti Lo Ca uerou's claim, ab mentioned auove ; this work has been let. (2) That the lower track to the Cham iou Lode claims be extended to the Surprise claim ground, a provable d : s'-mc6 of 25 chains, and that tenders for the work bo called for without delay.
