Marious membera of the Government have sent despatches of condolence to

his widow. The murder is the sole topic of the day. It is now known that he had a large sum of money in his possession. It is supposed that the murderers were disturbed in their operation of rifling the clothes of the dead man, and overlooked a pocket containing 537 francs. The doctors who examined the body express the opinion that M. Barreme was murdered with a bludgeon, and that the first blow killed him.
