Gold Prospecting at Tuhua. Tawhiao to Visit Thames.
Thames, JaD. 53 News has been received from one of the members of the Tuhua prospecting party to the effect that on arrival at Waimata last week, there appeared to be a misunderstanding amongst the natives as to whether the prospectors should be allowed to explore the neighbourhood. The natives held a korero, and ultimately resolved to offer no obstruction to the miners' advance. Tawhiao has notified the local chief that he is now at Whakatiwai, near Miranda, and expects to reach Thameß shortly. The object of his visit is to endeavour to obtain the cession of the lands, and an acknowledgment of the sovereignty, but he will receive little support from the Ngatimaru hapua.
