London, January 6th. —A. conference between the Agents General for the Australian colonies and Mr Baker with reference to the conditions of the proposed federal mail service between Great Britain and Australia took place today. The Agents General approved of the conditions, and it has been arranged that tenders for the transport of mails between England and the colonies shall further be advertised for 7th January. Mr Baker is delaying calling for tenders for the proposed federal ocean mail service between England and the Australian colonies until he has received information as to whether the Governments of Queensland, Tasmania, and Western Australia will co-operate in the scheme. London, January 10.
It has been ascertained that the majority of the membere of the Liberal party are opposed to the suggestion that an Irish Parliament should be established. It is announced that the Ministry intend to introduce three separate measures providing for local government in England, Scotland, and Ireland respectively. The'leading members of the Liberal party will'meet in conference' on' Monday for the purpose of discussing the polipy to be adopted by the party in Parliament, vith regard to the agitation in Ireland and othor prominent questions? ". ' ,
