MINING NEWS.
Tho is very little news of importance to chronicle From any of the- different mining centres thus week.At Karangahako good headway is being: made with the work of opening up the Woodstock mine which should be in good working order about the end of the present month. Crushing for the Ivanhoo mine is now goinsr on at the Hauraki battery, where 16 head of stumpers are engaged, one eight-hour shift, and the stuff is showing up for an average return. In the Kenilworth mine the stone coming to hand from the different workings is of very good quality, and a parcel of 5 tons is now being classed and bagged preparatory to being sent on to the smelting works, Thames, for assay purpose. The first load of ore from tho United Mine, Waihi, arrived here last evening, and I hear that the proprietors intend sending a parcel of ten tons t .o Swansea, Wales as soon as it can be conveyed to Auckland for shipment. Driving north and south on the reef in the Roseiuont mine is still in progress, and good stone is being obtained from both points. A start lias been m-vle to class and bag ore which it is just probable will also be sent to Swansea, Wales, for treatment.
