KARANGAHAKE.
A meeting of the inhabitants of Karangahnkp was held in the Woodstock furnace house a few days since, for the purpose of considering the steps necessary to be taken for the construction oi a tramway through the Waifcawheta Gorge. On the motion of Mr Shepherd, seconded by Mr Heitraan, Mr Humphreys was called to the chair, the following resolutions were put to the meeting and carrie.l unanimously: — (1) "That from the inacessible position of some of the claims it is absolutely uecessaiy that ft road or tramway should be constructed through the Waifcawheta Gftrge." (2) " That the Ohinemuri County Council be requested to urge on Government the necessity for carrying out the work without delay." (B) " That the ipanageis of the different mines throughout the the district be asked to communicate with their directors, wbo should bring their influence to bear on Government, with a view to getting a subsidy iv aid of carrying out the work." (4) " That the fttll owing gentlemen be appointed a committee to farther the object in view, viz : — Messrs Hall, Kneebone, Hogg, Stone, Littlejohn, McGfuer, Morgan, McGutre, Gavin, Campbell, and Liddell." "That the Chairman bo the convener of the next meeting.
SCHOOL OF MINES. A public meeting vras held in the Woodstock furnace house on Wednesday evening) last,. when the report of the provisional conrnittee was brought Up and adopted. About fifty members have joined the school here, but the ' numbers irom Waitekauri and Waibi are not yet to hand. Messrs J* P. Hall and J. H. Moore have been nominated to represent iV.arangahake on the School - of Mines Committee. . . ,
