The adjourned meeting of the District Hospital Board took place in the Borough Chambers Thames, on Tuesday evening, 17th iost. Present Messrs Itensliaw (Chairman) representing Thames Borough ; W B. The Charitable Aid Board held tliftir first nieetin the same evening, at the conclusion of the Hospital Distrii * Board meeting. The same members Avere present, 'as at the latter with the addition of .Mr Coleh.ook, representing Coromandel. There wub a discussion as to how many ' iiiembers should form a quorum, -tlie Government' .Having in a telegram, which was read by the Secretary, stated that five members was the reg tired number. It was afterwards decided however, that in future three should constitute a quorum. Mr Renshaw was, on the motion of Mr Oolebroolx, {seconded by Mr Walsh, appointed Chairman of the Board. It was resolved that Mr Miller be authorised to obtain Sir Frederick Whitaker's opinion as to how the rates should be levied, whether ia proportion to the value of property in each County, or whether the Board can itself fix the amount chargeable to each local body. Tho following estimate of the requirements of the Board for each year was made :— Orphanage, £400 (exclusive of buildings) ; Ladies' Benevolent Society, £100 j charitable aid^fpf 'tiieJ Thames Borough and • County; £720 ?■ Coromandel £150 ; Ohinemuri, £15b \ Piako, £150 ; and Old Men's Home, £330. Total, £2000. It was agreed that £334 should be demanded from the local bodies as their contribution up to the 31st March next, and £1000 for the year ending 31st March, 1887. J Mr Colebrook, in moving " that this Board delegate to the Coromandel County Council all its powers within the district of Coromandel," said that the Ooromaudel District Board had resolved iv favor of separation from Thames in charitable aid matters. After a brief discussion the matter dropped. On the matter of the futuie management of the Orphanage nnd other existing charitable institutions, a committee consisting of Messrs Renshaw, Green-, ville, and Walsh was appointed to take tho voluntary supervision of these iusti-* tutions with the privilege of calling in' any voluntary assistance necessary. It was resolved that the secretary shall also perform the duties of relieving officer, at a salary of £»00. An advertisement was ordered to be inserted in the lornl papers calling for applications for this appointment, to be received at the next meeting of the Board ou the 7th December.
